Luis's expertise is further recognized through his role as an esteemed instructor at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), one of only three institutions in California affiliated with the prestigious OSHA Training Education Centers, a network comprising just 26 centers across the United States.
As a General Industry and Construction Federal and California Authorized Outreach Instructor, Luis imparts crucial safety knowledge to the current and next generation of safety professionals.
Luis's academic credentials include both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Occupational Environmental Health and Safety, a foundation that supports his deep understanding of the complexities and nuances of workplace safety. When Luis Ortiz first joined one of our companies as the Director of EHS, we were facing an overwhelming number of litigated claims—among the highest in our enterprise. When I first met and hired Luis Ortiz, I knew he was destined for great things in the EHS field and in life. Luis was always highly motivated and eager to learn, which made him stand out. We spent countless hours discussing safety and health principles, theory, and practical applications, particularly around protecting workers from exposures to various air contaminants. Specific applications we worked on included protecting our people from heavy metals, such as lead and cadmium, protecting them from solvent exposures, and of course, implementing true and effective lockout scenarios.
